Walking safely, at home and outdoors

A well-chosen walking aid brings back the wish to get out of the armchair and go to the shops; a badly chosen one ends up in a corner. In our shop at Via Crispi 130 in Varese you will find walking frames with and without seats, indoor and outdoor rollators, tripod sticks, walking sticks and crutches: you try them walking and we adjust them to the person who will use them.

Walking frame or rollator?

A walking frame is fixed or has two front wheels: it gives the most stable support and is meant for the home, for people who are afraid of falling or are learning to walk again. A rollator has four wheels, brakes and a seat to rest on: it rolls without being lifted and is made for people who walk further, outdoors too. When balance is the main problem there is the forearm-support rollator, where you lean on your forearms.

For recovery, renting is better

After a hip or knee replacement a walking frame is needed for a few weeks, then you move on to a stick. In these cases renting makes more sense: walking frames, rollators, tripod sticks and crutches are all available to rent, and if the aid turns out to be needed for good you can buy it.

Frequently asked questions

A walking frame gives the most stable support and is meant for indoor use, for people who are afraid of falling or are learning to walk again. A rollator has four wheels, brakes and a seat: it rolls without being lifted and suits people who walk further, outdoors too. If balance is the main problem there is a forearm-support rollator.

With the person standing and arms by their sides, the handles sit at wrist height, so the elbow stays slightly bent. Too low and the back bends forward, too high and the shoulders take the load. We adjust them in the shop for the person who will use it.

Renting often makes more sense: after a hip or knee replacement a walking frame is needed for a few weeks, then you move on to a stick. Walking frames, rollators, tripod sticks and crutches are all available to rent by the day or by the month.
